WITHit Giga Smarwatch: in review
Cupertino looks at a fraction of the price
If there’s one thing to be said for smart watches, it’s that we’ve got no shortage of case shapes and sizes out there to choose from. One of the most instantly recognizable ones, of course, is the rounded square that comes from that fruit company out in Cupertino. Whether for the style or the functionality, people seem to like the shape. So, if you were intrigued by our WITHit Zetta review, but wanted that specific shape, well, the WITHit Giga is where you’ll land.

WITHit Giga: what it is
Well, it’s, uh, a smartwatch that can track your heart rate and stress, steps, and all of the usual fitness and health metrics. Where it shines (literally) is the fact that you’ve got an 2” AMOLED screen (more on that tech here). It gives you sharp graphics, and of course, all manner of watch faces that you can change out.
As we noted on the Zetta review, the crown (and those watch faces) can be a weak point. In that, when you’re on the main screen, you use that crown to scroll through and find the watch face you want. However, there’s no way to lock that selection in. That’s great if you’re always wanting to fidget and change the dial, but if you want a consistent look, you can’t stop it from being changed. Again, that’s one thing we’d call out to their UI designers to fix.

Using the watch
Using the Giga was pretty straightforward, if you’ve used any modern smartwatch. You get it charged up, pair it to your phone with the associated app, and then you’re off to the races. It’ll send data over to your phone on all the things it quantifies, and it’ll display the notifications from your phone.
It will also take over as a little bluetooth speaker (as the watch does have a tiny, tiny speaker on it). Myself, I’m not about to pretend I’m Dick Tracy, but I suppose you could if you really wanted to. What this means is I basically only had bluetooth on on my phone a few times a day to sync data from the watch. Then again, I’m not one for notifications on my wrist. Which means I view these sorts of watches as simply a good way to get a picture of my health, and to see how active (or not) I am in a day.

Wrapping things up
One particularly nice thing about a square-case watch like this is that it’s easy to put just about any type of strap on it you want, without worry about weird gaps between the case and the strap. In this case, the WITHit Giga has 22mm lugs, which they also sell straps for. Our reviewer came in with a bundle of three straps - your standard silicone ones, and then a very interesting mesh bracelet.
It was interesting in the fact that it relied on a magnetic closure, rather than the fixed hook that you’re trying to get the length set correctly on. I tried the silicone straps for a day or two each, but the magnetic mesh was really my favorite. It’s easy on and off, and it’s easy to adjust it throughout the day.
Pricing for the WITHit Giga is the same as the Zetta as well - you can get the watch (with a spare strap) for $65, or with two extra straps for $75. Checkout all the options over at withitgear.com
