Two new G-SHOCK models that are a bit more eco-friendly
Tough on the trail, gentle on the planet
The last time we were talking about the G-SHOCK GA010 and GD010 (seen here), it was about how those models had a 10-year battery life. Extending the life of battery - meaning you’re replacing the cell less frequently - certainly can help lessen the impact of a watch on the planet’s resources (and landfills). Turns out, the G-SHOCK crew had some more ideas to go even more eco-friendly.
What other eco details show up?
For the GA010CE-2A (this is the ana-digi model) and the GD010CE-5 (fully digital) this first shows up in the hues used on the watches. While G-SHOCK watches can often be a riot of bold colors, these two go with calmer hues, something a bit more akin to what you might actually run across in the wild. Oh, and the dyes used are derived from foods, so more of a natural approach.
Where those colors appear is where the eco changes show up. First up, for the cases, you’ve got a bio-based resin, which means you’ve got some plant-based materials getting put to work, reducing the need for petroleum-based solutions. Secondly, the straps are made from CORDURA re/cor, which is a recycled product. Not a thing wrong with keeping stuff out of the landfill and putting it to new uses.

But it’s still a G-SHOCK, right?
You can rest easy - even though some of the materials have changed in how they’re putting the watch together, it still has that legendary shock-resistance, courtesy of a core guard made with carbon fiber reinforcement. If you’re the sort of person who literally bangs their way through the world, this is the sort of watch you’ll want on your wrist, because it’ll take it all on, and keep on running. Not only that, you’ve got a whole plethora of functionality (just peep the specs down at the bottom of the article) keeping you going.

Wrapping things up
Now, another great thing about these G-SHOCK watches is just how affordable they are. The fully-digital GD010CE-5 comes in at just $135, while the ana-digi GA010CE-2A is $155. We will note that the GD010 version is sold out at the moment, but there are other colorways (and without the eco-friendly materials) available.
