Timex Marlin Quartz GMT: now available
A GMT that looks like it hails from an era when travel was enjoyable
Though John and Victor will poke fun at me for it, I’ve long been a fan of a GMT complication. Why the fun? Well, because I don’t really travel across different timezones that frequently, or really have a need for a GMT complication. Still, I rather like GMT designs. I’ve also come to appreciate the vintage looks of the Timex Marlin, which means that the just-released Timex Marlin Quartz GMT is an eye-catcher in my book.
Timex Marlin Quartz GMT: what it is
As with the rest of the line, the Timex Marlin Quartz GMT feels like it could have been lifted directly from the 1960s. For me, this comes through in the striped stick handset, the thinner printing on the dial, and of course that domed acrylic crystal.
Fortunately, we get the advantages of modern manufacturing, which will mean a tidy fit-and-finish, as well as some reasonable water resistance. Here, they’ve added a red tipped GMT hand (our presumption is the movement is a “caller” GMT, not a “traveler”) that picks out against the 24-hour time track on the dial. A clean way to track that second time zone, while not making the watch feel overly bulky.
What versions are available?
For this launch, there are going to be three versions available, and you can see photos of all three throughout this article.
A gold tone case and bracelet, set with a black dial ($239)
A stainless steel case and bracelet, with a blue dial ($229)
A stainless steel case, blue dial with gold accents, on a blue strap ($199)
For me, it’s all about that blue dial on the bracelet - that one looks like a very versatile watch, especially if you’re going to be headed out for some wide-ranging travel.
Wrapping things up
The Timex Marlin Quartz GMT is available as of today, with pricing ranging from $199 - $239, as we detailed up above. Even if you’re not traveling, and you’re looking for a dressier vintage-inspired watch, this could be a unique way to go. timex.com
