Swatch X AP announces the Royal Pop and it's wild
Swatch and Audemars Piguet broke the Internet last week by teasing something called the Royal Pop, a mashup of Swatch looks and Royal Oak class that had everyone confused. Similar to their work with Omega and Blancpain, the Royal Pop was supposed to be a collab that brought the design language created by the horologers at AP into the world of fast, Swatchy fashion.
The result is something that has everyone either scratching their heads or lining up at Swatch stores.
First, a bit about the Pop line. Swatch released the first Pops in 1986. The gimmick was simple: you could wear the watches on a strap or on a necklace and they were big and bold, unlike the traditional Swatch watches folks were used to. Basically, they looked something like this:
