Warm tones for cool temps
Last month, we talked about the Swatch Greenshift Glow. That was a chronograph aimed at larger wrists, so it’s only fair that we look at a simpler two-hander in a thin profile that is well-suited for smaller wrists. Let’s see what the Swatch Alpine Berry is all about.
Swatch Alpine Berry: what it is
The Swatch Alpine Berry takes up residence in their ultra-thin lineup, aka the SKIN collection. Fittingly, this watch comes in at just 5.8mm thick, which allows it to slip under just about any shirt cuff you can throw at it. It’s not a tiny watch, though, as it does come in at a 38mm diameter, which still keeps the watch legible.
Still, it is a watch better suited to smaller wrists, so I enlisted my daughter to help review the watch (she was happy to, as she really liked the color scheme), which is why you don’t see my wrist in the photos.
What the watch is all about
To my eyes - and own history with the brand - this feels like watch Swatch has always been about - making fun, colorful designs at affordable price points. Albeit, this is not the all-plastic look that I remember from my youth, and instead takes it in a much more refined and dressier direction.
In other words, this is the sort of watch that works for someone who just wants the simplicity of a quartz watch for basic timekeeping, but wants it to be usable in a variety of situations. With the gold-tone case and fuscia accents, it definitely can pass as a dress watch. Given that it’s also paired to a color-matched strap, though, it means it can also work as a casual watch.
Wrapping things up
In short, the Swatch Alpine Berry is an excellent option for someone looking for a reliable (and colorful) quartz watch that can be worn every day, and needs (or prefers) a watch that won’t overwhelm their wrist.
