Shinola Monster Worldtimer GMT
For those that know Honolulu Blue
I’ve made no secret here that I’m a fan of a watch that features a GMT complication (even if I’m not traveling much), as well as being a fan of Shinola. I mean, there’s a reason there’s a sticker on my laptop that says “Detroit vs. Everybody”. So you know when the news hit on the Shinola Monster Worldtimer GMT, I was very, very interested
Shinola Monster Worldtimer GMT: what it is
The Monster collection has been one of my favorite designs from Shinola, as it provides a very capable tool watch along with some Shinola design touches on it. Well, here, they take that robust dive watch, toss in a GMT complication (courtesy of the Sellita SW330-2 movement inside).
Aside from the design cues on the dial (the indices and the handset), there’s another very-specific thing that makes this a watch design that calls the Motor City home. On the city bezel, we’re very accustomed to New York showing up as the representative of the Eastern Time Zone. Well, on this watch, you’ll notice that it’s none other than Detroit taking that spot on the dial (fitting, given the Pistons dominance of the Eastern Conference this year).
Wrapping things up
Frankly, there’s a good argument to be made about a solid steel sports watch being an excellent all-around, every day watch. Add in something travel-specific like we have here, and you’ve got a great watch for someone who’s dealing with other time zones regularly, either from the office or on the road.
The finish on the steel means this watch can work on the weekends as well as the office, and even with the occasional suit. Need to dress it down? You’ll be able to pop a leather or rubber strap into those 20mm lugs quite easily, and you’ll be on your way. If you want to put the Shinola Monster Worldtimer GMT on your wrist, it’s available now for $2,295. Check it out, and order yours, directly at shinola.com
