Shinola Hockeytown Runwell
Hey-ey-ey Hockeytown!
As we’re all aware, I’m originally from the Detroit area, so I’ve got a soft spot for Shinola. Especially when they’re honoring local institutions, such as the pro sports teams that call Detroit home. This time around, they are helping the Detroit Red Wings mark 100 years with the Shinola Hockeytown Runwell.
Shinola Hockeytown Runwell: what it is
Well, it’s a Shinola Runwell, here done up in 41mm guise. When I think of a Shinola watch (or clock), it’s the Runwell layout that I’m picturing. So, it makes sense that for this special watch, they’d use that platform.
As with other Runwell designs, there’s plenty here to make the watch stand out from the others. For one, you’ve got the vibrant Red Wings red used for the dial. Not only that, instead of Detroit under the Shinola logo, you’ve got Hockeytown.
You’ve got numerals that look like they were taken off of a vintage hockey sweater, and then the 11 has something special on it. It’s got a silvery sheen to it, marking the 11 Stanley Cups that the Wings have brought home. Around back, the caseback medallion features the 100th anniversary logo, which has the iconic winged wheel.

The Shinola Hockeytown Runwell actually released over the weekend, and it’s available to pre-order for $750, which is just a slight premium over the other 41mm Runwell models.
