Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight
Security light and a camera, all in one
Over the past few years, as I’ve gotten more familiar with the Reolink ecosystem of cameras, I’ve really come to appreciate what it is they’ve got on offer. They have quite a number of different devices to fit your use. Their latest looks like a great way to replace an exterior light on your home. Meet the Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight.
Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight: what it is
As you can tell from the intro (and the photos), the Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight is a security camera and security light, all-in-one. While the camera does rely on wifi to communicate with your phone (and/or the Reolink HomeHub), it does require a hard-wired connection to power the lights.
In other words, this is not a camera you’re putting up with a solar panel out on the fence or the corner of your porch. Here, you’re either installing a brand-new junction box, or taking out an older exterior light and upgrading it with this.
What we like about it
Well, for one, that it’s an all-in-one solution putting the light and the camera together in one package. The lighting has all of the things you’d want from a security light (including dusk-till-dawn lighting, as well as motion triggering), plus the ability to adjust the color temperature.
For the camera, you’ve actually got two lenses (a wide angle and a zoom), mounted into a housing that can rotate. This means that you can track movement as something (or someone) moves around, and not hope to catch it all with a multiple-camera coverage. While the hard-wiring of the light adds a little bit to the complexity of an install, it should be quite doable for a DIY’er, and brings the benefit of your never running out of battery power on the camera.
Wrapping things up
If you’re just starting out with a camera system for your home, this Reolink TrackFlex Floodlight seems like a solid option, with a lot of flexibility. Particularly if you’ve got an older beat-up exterior fixture that you were already thinking about replacing.
From our experience, getting Reolink cameras setup and running is quite simple, and the phone interface for checking what’s going on is pretty intuitive. This camera just launched today, which means that the MSRP of $299.99 is discounted, which nets you a final price of just $239.99. You can find it over at Amazon, or of course, directly from Reolink.com.
