Pebble Time 2 Final Design Revealed — Specs, Colors, and Pre-Order Update
Pebble is back with a proper look at the Pebble Time 2, and for long-time fans there’s more good news: the Pebble trademark is officially back in their hands. What was once called the Core Time 2 will now carry the Pebble Time 2 name, just as the Core 2 Duo becomes the Pebble 2 Duo.
If you’re a gearhead then the Pebble should really get your motor running. Created by Eric Migicovsky in 2013, well before the Apple Watch. The watch had an e-ink screen and did most of what folks wanted it to, including exercise tracking and notifications. This new model features a color e-ink screen and a design that hearkens back to the heady days of hardware startups while still looking brand new.
The design shown at launch in March was only a preview. The watch has been refined since then, and early engineering samples are already on wrists. It’s still not production quality, but the shape, finish, and button design are close to final. Compared to the unreleased 2016 Pebble Time 2, this is a cleaner, more polished take, with a case that feels closer to Pebble Time Steel in its attention to detail.
Colorways
Four color options are planned, though the final palette and names aren’t locked down yet. Pre-order customers will get an email once colors are confirmed, so there’s no need to choose now.
Final Specifications
Some hardware details have changed or been confirmed since launch. The Pebble Time 2 now features a stainless steel 316 front and back, knurled stainless steel buttons, a multicolor RGB LED backlight, a second microphone for possible noise cancellation, and a compass sensor. The back cover is screw-mounted for easier servicing.
Core specs remain as announced earlier: a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper touch display under flat hardened glass, quick-release 22 mm strap, up to 30 days battery life (estimated), heart rate monitor, step and sleep tracking, speaker, vibration motor, and waterproofing (final rating TBD).
