In terms of water resistance ratings, 100m generally covers whatever you’ll end up needing (including a swim, which a 50m rating won’t always cover); if you’re actually going diving, then bumping up to 300m has you. Then again, most of us are desk divers, and wear the watches more for the style than the capability. Well, whether you’re in it for what it can do, or you just want the “most”, there’s a new Oris that can handle more pressure than SCUBA divers would willingly submit themselves to - the Oris Aquis Pro 1000M.

Oris Aquis Pro 1000M: what it is
Take your favorite Oris Aquis (which is a solid-looking diver to begin with), and just go straight-up chonky with it. To be able to withstand the 100 bar of pressure (which is what the 1000m rating represents), you’re not looking to have a watch that’s trying to be the most svelte.
Here, the case is just barely under 50mm, and measures in at a thickness of 16.6mm. You’ve also got a double-domed sapphire crystal (no word on thickness), and a screwed-in caseback on the back. Stainless steel can be found on the screw-down crown, while titanium is used for the case, locking bezel, and caseback; ceramic shows up on the bezel insert.
How it stands out
You’ve got to make the Oris Aquis Pro 1000M jump out, so those familiar with the brand will know it from any other Aquis. Here, they’ve opted with a dark grey PVD coating on the case, bezel, and clasp. Pair that to the thicker case (the extra text on the side of the bezel), and it should be clear this is no ordinary Aquis.
To wrap out the rest of the aesthetics, they’ve gone with a blue gradient dial, with a similar blue showing up on the first 15 minutes of the dive bezel, as well as the rubber strap.
Wrapping things up
For 99.999% of us out there, the Oris Aquis Pro 1000M is definitely overkill, in terms of that WR rating. However, if you want to be absolutely sure that no water is going to get into the movement, ever (so long as the crown is screwed down), no matter what? Then this is here for you. While I at one point enjoyed the novelty of a bigger watch on the wrist, these days I’m content to have something that fits a bit more comfortably. That’s just me though, and no judgement here if you find this to be a perfect fit you and your wrist (and if 1000m isn’t enough, they’ve also got a 4000m version). It’s available now for $4,100; check out all the details over at oris.ch
