Magrette Moana: a new model launches
And is available for pre-order
Now, if you’re passingly familiar with the watches from New Zealand-based Magrette, the Moana name sounds pretty familiar. While initially confusing, I think it cleverly ties this new watch back to the Moana Pacific Professional and Moana Pacific Waterman GMT. So, let’s see what this brand-new Magrette Moana is all about.
Magrette Moana: what it is
In short, it’s a Magrette designed for a smaller wrist. Yes, they do categorize it as a women’s watch in the text of the product page. We say, hey, if you like the look and a 38mm fits your wrist well, wear it, regardless of gender. Now, on to the watch.
As you can see from the photos, we’ve still got that cushion case shape, which is familiar across the Magrette lineup. Other familiar touches are going to be the typeface used for the two-digit numerals at the compass points, as well as the logo embossed in the FKM strap.
So, what’s new? Well, for starters, you’ve got an extremely textured dial set under the sapphire crystal. That same texture is then repeated on the sides of the case as well. We’ve seen Magrette do engraving on some watches previously, but this is the first time we recall seeing the case embellished like this on a full production model.
The movement
Many times, if a brand is designing a smaller watch (whether or not they state it as being for women), they’ll take the opportunity to put a quartz movement in. It gives you some flexibility in the case design, as well as lowers costs. That’s not the route they’ve gone with the Magrette Moana. Inside - and visible through the exhibition caseback - you’ve got the Sellita SW260. This is a 4 Hz movement that offers about a 38 hour power reserve, so standard stuff there. What this brings along to the watch is that small seconds at 6 o’clock.
Wrapping things up
If you’d like to get the Magrette Moana on your wrist, you’ve just got to decide if you want it with the blue, green, or white dial. Once that’s settled, you can head on over and put your pre-order down. Full price for the watch is $885, and you’ll be putting $300 down for the pre-order. When it gets closer to shipment time (anticipated for October 2025), you’ll pay the balance, plus $48 for international shipping.
