The Citizen Promaster Land GMT is a $595 flyer watch that feels like Citizen stepping back into its comfort zone. It has a practical and legible design and a case and face that remind me of an older Rolex Explorer. The big, bold numerals, extremely visible hands, and clever GMT hand make this a greatA choice for folks looking for a quartz travel watch with a bit of pedigree.

At 39.5mm, the Land GMT wears smaller than most modern watches and avoids the oversized feel that many tool watches drift into. The case finishing sits somewhere between brushed and polished, which fits the field watch direction Citizen is aiming for. At 13.4mm thick, it is not slim, but it does not feel top-heavy on the wrist. This is the kind of watch you give to a friend or relative who travels quite a bit and hasn’t fully bought into the idea of a mechanical. It’s readable and very usable and definitely doesn’t break the bank.
