IWC has released an all black version of its Portugieser Chronograph. The new reference, IW371631, uses Ceratanium for the case, crown, and pushers, a material, that IWC is touting as an interesting new alternative to PVD coating. The watch is limited to 1,500 pieces.

The price? A cool $14,600. A lot for a chrono but probably not a lot for a piece made of an entirely new material.

The Portugieser Chronograph has been part of the collection since 1998. Its layout is unchanged here. Two vertically aligned subdials display running seconds and a 30 minute counter. The inner flange carries a quarter second scale. The case diameter remains 41 mm.
