Last month, we brought you word of an all-new movement from Girard-Perregaux, the GP4800 (you can read about that here). You knew it was only a matter of time before we saw a watch announced with the movement, and that day is here. That new movement will be taking up residence in the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Fifty.

Girard-Perregaux Laureato Fifty: what it is
It’s the design that we’ve come to know and love as the Laureato - a luxurious sport watch that’s identified by the octagonal bezel with it’s circular base, set onto a tonneau case with an integrated bracelet. While that first Laureato was all about the quartz movement (the quartz crisis was in full swing), this one, of course, houses that brand new movement.
While the case profile is familiar, this particular case is on the new side of things. It’s just 39mm wide, and a svelte 9.8mm thick. To underscore the luxury (and the 50th anniversary), we have a mix of steel and 3N yellow gold. Interestingly, for a watch this thin, it still maintains a 150m WR rating - so you’ll be fine if you get pushed into the kiddie pool wearing it.

Wrapping things up
We like the Laureato design, and I particularly like how they’ve managed to add some touches of gold without overpowering the whole watch. If you want to get your own Girard-Perregaux Laureato Fifty, just bear in mind that only 200 of them are being made. And with that, the price of $28,320 shouldn’t be a surprise.
