When you think of a G-SHOCK, odds are you’re picturing something quite similar to that photo up above - a big digital screen, a bumped-out resin case helping protect the internals of the watch, and of course the legendary reliability of a G-SHOCK. Their latest, the G-SHOCK G5600SFJ-9, adds in solar power and a partnership.
Who’s the partner?
For the G-SHOCK G5600SFJ-9, they’ve paired up with Surfrider Foundation Japan, which is (these days) a worldwide NGO that is focused on environmental issues. So, to design a watch that fits the mission of the organization, they offer up solar power, a 200m WR rating (so you can surf and swim), and a bio-resin case.
We’re seeing bio-resin show up in more Casio products, and here they’re doing it to interesting effect. The inspiration here is the play of sunrise against the sandy shore, so they’ve got a swirled mix of yellow and beige tones. This gives a further added benefit of making each case unique in it’s own right. Past that, you’ve got a few different details on the watch that highlight the partnership.
Wrapping things up
Now, even if you’re not a surfer, this is still going to be a solid watch to wear all summer, and carry a bit of sunshine with you when the days start getting shorter. Because, at it’s core, this is a G-SHOCK, so it’ll last you for years and years. Check it out (and the other variants), or get yours for $150, directly over at casio.com
