DuRoBo Krono: coming later this month
A pocket-sized eReader and AI assistant
Back in September, we brought you workd of the DuRoBo Krono (you can see that here). At that time, it was launching on Kickstarter, and we liked the idea of what this pocket-sized device could do. The campaign was a success, and now, the device is going to be available for regular purchase later this month.
What’s changed?
On the hardware side of things, the device is the same as what we saw on Kickstarter: a 6.13” 300 PPI eInk display, 128GB of storage plus 6GB of RAM, as well as a tactile dial on the side to help with navigation. What has been tweaked and updated is on the software side of things, which presumably means the installed apps and assistants. It likely also has some updates to the Android platform it’s based on.
Additionally, they’ve got all sorts of accessories available for the Krono, including protective cases (which will come free as part of a pre-order), as well as a bluetooth remote that will let you turn pages (in an eBook) or scroll through menus without actually touching the device.
Wrapping things up
What I particularly like about the DuRoBo Krono is the form-factor. I enjoy reading on my Kindle, and it’s always in my work bag. But sometimes you head out and get stuck waiting somewhere, and then, no reading material. With the more phone-like form factor of the DuRoBo Krono, that will make it much easier to always have it with you, and make use of all the capabilities. At $279, it should be an affordable companion to your daily carry smartphone. Keep an eye out here, as we’re working to get one in for a hands-on review. durobo.com
