Common Skies Dad Jacket: in review
Though we’re called WristWatchReview, we’ve got plenty of other interests - as I’m sure you do as well. So, to that end: if you’re new here, you’ll see other content, like outdoors gear, beverages, and even some apparel. Today, we’re talking about an article of clothing that seemed purpose-named for me. That would be the Common Skies Dad Jacket.
What makes it a "dad jacket"?
Well, in my book, any jacket I wear is a "dad jacket". But let's take a step back. Basically, it's the sort of simple, clean jacket that most guys are going to say, yeah, that looks good. In this case, it's a slimmed-down bomber jacket profile, with the stretch at the cuffs and waist, as well as around the collar. It fits, it's comfortable, and it's a versatile layer when things are a little cooler.
A modern aesthetic
Just because it's called the Common Skies Dad Jacket, doesn't mean that it has to look like something that your dad (or his dad) would wear. So, how do you bring it forward to the common era? That's accomplished by getting an excellent pattern printed onto the body of the jacket.
In this case, it's a view from inside of Naoshima Pavilion, so you're getting a taste of Japanese design in the pattern. It feels modern, yet also abstract. Pair that with white sleeves (printed with the slogan Common Skies - Different Worlds) and an all-black back, you've got a jacket that feels modern.
Why I liked it
When I wore the Common Skies Dad Jacket, I felt like I was dressed a bit more stylishly. Plus, with the overall monochrome aesthetic of the jacket, it felt pretty versatile. Spring being what it is here in the Midwest, I had a narrow window where this was a perfect layer to throw on heading out the door. Basically, when there's a hint of a chill where you might grab a hoodie, this is a jacket that will serve you well.
Wrapping things up
Construction-wise, the Common Skies Dad Jacket is a relatively simple one, and it's got a profile that will be familiar. You've just got the two pockets in the front, which means you're not going to be searching through the jacket to remember where you stashed something. I wouldn't have minded an inside pocket, but that's perhaps just me.
The jacket doesn't just come in the pattern we showcased in this review; there are actually two other ones as well. Regardless of the pattern, the jacket will run you $129; sizing runs from XS to XXXL. Check it out and orders yours directly over at common-skies.com
