We here at WWR like a good GMT watch. How you define “good” is a matter of debate, but we’re jaded and cranky, and have handled more watches than any person should reasonably be expected to come to grips with. That means we can hit a snap judgement on a watch, and we’ve always liked the GMT watches that Butler has made (previously, it was just a quartz one). Well, now they’re back with a Swiss automatic, known as the Butler Skymaster Automatic GMT.

Butler Skymaster Automatic GMT: what it is

Basically, take the quartz GMT Butler already offered, swap the Ronda movement out for the Miyota 9075 automatic traveller GMT (which means the hour hand is set independently), make things a millimeter taller, and voila: you have the new watch. Now, sure, there are likely more things going on with the design process that I didn’t cover, but for us consumer types, that’s the big thing you’re going to see. In other words - if you liked their quartz version, you’re going to like the new automatic.

Wrapping things up

There are two versions of the Butler Skymaster Automatic GMT currently up for pre-order. There’s the “standard” one, which comes with a blue dial, on a bracelet as well as with a blue silicone strap. That one will retail for $1,089 but is currently on pre-order discount for $649. On the other hand, if you like yours in red-and-blue (aka the “Patriot”), the retail is $1,189, with the pre-order knocking it down to $699.

The pre-order closes out on January 21, 2026, with 50 of each version will ship in February. Past that, the remaining 50 of the Patriot (it’s a limited-edition), and whatever is ordered on the standard version, will ship in July. Check out all the details, and order yours, at butlerwatch.com
