Brunt Workwear Costello Tech Pants: in review
Lightweight pants that don't have to be limited to the jobsite
Now, to-date, we’ve reviewed a number of different items from Brunt Workwear. In fact, you can see many of them in that photo above - the McKenna Hoodie, the Scott Jacket (not pictured), and the Sullivan Boot. Now, you’re asking yourself, what in the world am I doing reviewing workwear intended for the construction site? Well, turns out, this is the sort of gear that can work well in many scenarios, including when you head off camping.

Brunt Workwear Costello Tech Pants: what they are
If you’re familiar with any sort of outdoors clothing, the Brunt Workwear Costello Tech Pants - at least with the material - is going to be pretty familiar. They’ve used a lightweight 5 oz ripstop fabric that has plenty of stretch, helps keep you cool, and even as a DWR coating to help keep spills from setting into the fabric.
On one hand, they’re going to feel familiar as a pair of pants - you’ve got two pockets around back, as well as another two up front at the hips. Those back pockets, though? Those are slanted, to help make it easier to slide things in (or out) of them. On the front pockets, you’ve got some extra reinforcement at the corners, meaning clipping a pocket knife there isn’t going to destroy the fabric.
Then, you’ve got the bonus pocket. There’s a drop-in pocket on the right leg. It’s sort of like a cargo pocket, being down further on your leg. However, there’s no flap, and the pocket itself is internal to the pant leg. This is a great pocket for when you just need to drop something down real quick - be it a tool, a handful of screws, or a handful of paracord line - that you don’t want to have on the ground, or otherwise keep available, and easy to get at.
How I put them to the test
As I mentioned up top, I’m not in the trades. I’m not going to be putting gear like the Brunt Workwear Costello Tech Pants through the paces they were designed for. Still, given the familiarity of this fabric, they felt like a good option to take on a camping trip that we went on recently.
Whether it was going for a hike (and not wanting to worry about what leaves I was walking through or if there were ticks in there) or just putting on a lighter layer once the sun went down and it cooled off, the pants did everything I asked of them. They did not feel heavy or like they were making me overheat, and they had plenty of stretch and flex to them. To maximize this, you’ll also want to ensure your belt has some stretch to it.
In short, I felt they were great pants for the outdoors, even if that’s not what they were originally designed for. Since that camping trip, I’ve been wearing them at home, and even into the office on some of those hotter days. All in all, they’ve been a great pair of pants, ones that offer quite a bit of flexility. Our guess is that they’d make for a great pair of travel pants as well.
