Bremont introduces the Supernova Hawking Limited Edition, honoring Stephen Hawking’s legacy
Bremont has unveiled the Supernova Hawking Limited Edition, the brand’s latest collaboration celebrating the life and work of Professor Stephen Hawking. Building upon the success of its first Hawking watch introduced in 2020, the new release brings the partnership into Bremont’s contemporary Supernova collection with a design that draws inspiration from both modern space engineering and Hawking’s groundbreaking work on black holes.
The Supernova collection, introduced earlier this year, represents a new direction for Bremont. With angular architecture, integrated styling, and advanced materials, it takes visual cues from spacecraft and orbital technology while remaining rooted in the brand’s reputation for robust, adventure-ready tool watches.
The Supernova Hawking carries that philosophy forward in a distinctly thematic execution. The 41mm case is crafted from ultra black DLC-treated 904L stainless steel, paired with a multi-faceted black ceramic bezel and Bremont’s signature layered case construction. The result is an imposing yet highly technical aesthetic that feels equally inspired by aerospace engineering and the mysteries of deep space.
The dial is where the collaboration’s inspiration becomes most apparent. A galvanic black grid pattern references spacecraft solar arrays, guiding the eye inward toward the center of the watch. Meteorite subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock reinforce its celestial inspiration, while Stephen Hawking’s name and his black hole temperature equation appear at 6 o’clock as a tribute to the physicist’s pioneering theory of Hawking radiation. White Super-LumiNova-filled triangular hour markers and rhomboidal black gold hands provide strong contrast against the monochromatic design while preserving the watch’s futuristic character.
Inside, the chronometer-rated BC77 automatic movement delivers a 62-hour power reserve. Flipping the watch over reveals an exhibition caseback featuring a swirling black hole motif surrounding the decorated rotor, offering a fitting visual connection to the scientific achievements that inspired the watch. The Supernova Hawking is available on either an integrated ultra black DLC-treated 904L stainless steel bracelet or a black rubber strap, both featuring Bremont’s quick-release system for easy interchangeability.
Rather than relying solely on commemorative engravings or subtle references, Bremont has woven Hawking’s scientific legacy throughout nearly every aspect of the design. From the meteorite subdials and layered architecture to the exhibition caseback and inclusion of Hawking’s famous equation, the Supernova Hawking feels like a thoughtfully executed concept rather than a standard limited-edition collaboration.
Tim Hawking, Professor Hawking’s son, said: “This magnificent timepiece is a fitting celebration of my father and his work. He spent a huge part of his scientific and literary career exploring the mysteries of black holes and their role in shaping our understanding of the universe. His groundbreaking ideas opened up entirely new ways of thinking about the cosmos and continue to inspire scientists and explorers around the world today.”
