Normally, the watches we write about and review are the sort that are meant for larger wrists - this means larger dimensions in the case as well as the strap. However, there are plenty among us who would prefer - or actually need - something a bit more diminutive. Many brands aim those at women, but frankly, anyone can wear a smaller watch if it fits their wrist and their taste. Today’s watch is definitely in that category of a smaller design - the Armitron Andi.

Armitron Andi: what it is
Armitron is a brand many of us are going to be familiar with, as they create a wide variety of designs at rather economical prices. The Armitron Andi is very much a dressier look, with some classic touches. The stainless steel oval case (36mm x 28mm) is paired to a 16mm leather strap that tapers to 14mm at the buckle.
The case itself has a gold tone finish to it, which adds a bit of flash to the conservative dial. Conservative in that it’s a simpler monochrome look, with Roman numerals and the handset in black against the silvery white dial. You do get some additional visual interest on the dial from it being a two-layer construction, so that catches the light differently.

Wearing the watch
Obviously, my 7.25” wrists are not the target market for the Armitron Andi. I did try it on when I was taking photos, and I was just able to buckle it in place. On the other hands, for my kids, it was the perfect size. It fit them quite well, and worked for them in a variety of situations. Most commonly, this was when they were a bit dressed up, but it could also work for slightly casual outfits as well.

Wrapping things up
Another thing that’s great about the Armitron Andi is the fact that it actually has some water resistance. It carries a 50m WR rating, which means it’s not going to be a problem if you get caught out in the rain, or splash the water around washing your hands. Maybe you don’t want to swim with it (which, frankly, isn’t a good idea with a leather strap) but otherwise, you’ll be good to go.
So, if you’re on the look for an affordable, dressier design for your summer outings, and you have smaller wrists, this is a watch that fits the bill. While we reviewed the gold tone / white dial / tan strap version of the Armitron Andi, there are actually five styles (three of which are on a chain-shaped bracelet). On the leather strap, as we reviewed, the watch runs $65; opting for bracelet style bumps the price to $75. Check out the range, and even order yours, directly at armitron.com
