We’ve talked about a number of Zodiac Super Sea Wolf models, as it’s become a very versatile foundation for them to create a number of looks. The last time we were hands on, it was with their Skin Diver interpretation. This time around, we’re diving into one of their colorful interpretations. No, not the sherbet, but in the same vein. This Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is definitely in the pink.
What’s new on this release?
The big change for this version of the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is the color scheme. While you’ve got the classic (and conservative) glossy black for the dial blank, the GMT bezel brings an unexpected color combo. For the day/night indication, we’ve got a fluorescent pink and white, with the bright pink repeating on the GMT hand as well.
Why would you choose this color combo? Frankly, so long as you have two different shades on the bezel, you’re going to easily separate day and night at a glance. Many times, a GMT watch will keep things more muted on the bezel, which lets it fit more into a traveling business situation. This one, on the other hand, keeps things very bright and bold. Why I picked this one is quite simple – as a “girl dad”, there’s a lot of pink in the house, and I knew that they would get a kick out of seeing me with this watch on the wrist.
Overall comfort
For me, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is absolutely a comfortable watch. The 40mm case fits very nicely onto the wrist. A big part of the comfort of this watch is due to the 5-link jubilee-style bracelet that it comes with. It offers a lot of flex, which you can see in the gallery up above. Another great thing that Zodiac has done is build a spring expansion into both sides of the clasp. This allows the bracelet to sort of “breathe” with you as your wrist expands and contracts throughout the day.
Wearing it day-to-day
For me, I like a steel watch on a bracelet. I particularly appreciate the polished center links on a jubilee, which gives things a bit more of a sparkle. Where the watch really shined was when I headed into the office (which is definitely less casual than at home), and when I had a suit on. If feels like a dressier watch, but those hits of bright pink keep it from taking itself too seriously.
With the deep black dial, picking out the lumed handset – at a glance – is not a problem (there’s a reason classic dive watches go with white hands on a black dial for legibility). Sure, the pink GMT hand can take a second to pick out, but it’s just fine. And then, the polished and lumed hour indices help you narrow down the exact time easily, day or night.
Wrapping things up
In short, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is a perfect watch for me: it’s slightly dressy, it brings a GMT complication to the party, and packs it all into a dive watch look (and capability). If there was one thing I could change on the design, it would be for the GMT bezel to be lumed as well. It would be just an extra bit of fun for the watch.
Now, I know, that bright pink is not going to be for everyone. If that’s a bit much for you, the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT is also available with a silver dial and a black/grey GMT bezel. Regardless of the color you choose, they come standard with the jubilee bracelet. Want to add one to your wrist before travels start up? They’re available for $1,995 directly from zodiacwatches.com
