Now, to be sure – Zodiac’s watches are plenty capable of heading under water. That said, let’s be honest. If you’re buying an 18K gold-plated watch, odds are that said watch is going to be staying firmly on land, or at best head into the pool. Still, can’t deny the visual weight of a gold watch. If that’s what you’re looking for, then there’s the Zodiac Compression Diver 18K.
Zodiac Compression Diver 18K: what it is
That’s pretty simple. The Zodiac Compression Diver 18K started out as their Compression Diver (which we reviewed here, and wrote about a number of other versions here). Take that base platform, put down a layer of 18k yellow gold plating on the steel case and bracelet, and put a black dial in it.
The aesthetics
Black and gold, that’s a classic combo. When you’ve got that black dial set into the yellow gold case, that’s a pretty solid foundation. On that dial, the indices and handset also have gold tones on them, while the bezel keeps things clean and simple with a white (luminous) imprint in the black surface of the bezel.
Wrapping things up
If you want to put one of the 300 being made of the Zodiac Compression Diver 18K on your wrist, be prepared for a premium. While other Zodiac Compression models range from $1,395 – $1,895, there’s the reality that 18k gold is not an inexpensive material. For that plating, you’re looking at a price tag of $4,995.
