This is my sixth Phoibos watch review and – as with the previous five – I was not disappointed. The Eagle Ray is probably their most popular model and they comes in a few different styles. This is the new Phoibos Eagle Ray 300M Blue dial. They were kind enough to send one out for review and I like what I see.
To me, the highlight of this Phoibos Eagle Ray is the dial. Instead of doing the whole dial in blue, they chose to transition from black to blue. This look is pretty cool and looks incredible in the sun. This three hander is powered by a Sekio NH35 automatic movement. Three handed watches can sometimes can get a bit boring, but with that transitioning dial, the look is anything but boring. Adding to the cool look of this dial is the jagged edged bezel with its ceramic insert. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with three layers of anti-reflective coating.
Made from 316L stainless steel and using a mix of brushed and polished finishes this has a look of a casual, yet dressy diver. The size is just right at 41mm and fits on my wrist perfectly. Water resistance is a respectable 300m due to its screw down crown to keep that water out. There is no exhibition case back but that’s just fine because Phoibos puts their cool polished octopus logo on it. Everything about this case is solid and well crafted. The look is cool and interesting, but not over done.
The bracelet on this Phoibos Eagle Ray is made from 316L stainless steel, the same as the case. Just like the case, the bracelet is a mix of brushed and polished finishes. In the light these polished finishes sparkle in the sun which gives this casual diver some style. The clasp is a traditional locking clasp with no divers extension. While the bracelet is nice, I would recommend throwing on a rubber strap if you really want to dive with thi watch. The quality of this bracelet is excellent to be because there is no hair pulling at all, and for me that’s a big deal.
Using 15 layers Super-LumiNova BGW9 on hands, indices and bezel markings the glow on this Eagle Ray is excellent. You’re not missing anything in the dark with this one. The chage time is very fast and the glow last for a ling time. I really like that blue green glow.
I have not been disappointed with any of the Phoibos watches I have reviewed. Build quality is is amazing for the price they sell these for. This Phoibos Eagle Ray is selling for only $299 USD and to me that’s a great price for a watch like this. If you like what you see go check the out at phoiboswatch.com.
