We Are Not Qualified To Own This Watch

No, literally, you an I are not qualified to own the Bremont MBI Pilot Watch.  It is not that I can’t afford it, or did not order it before it was sold out, it is due to the fact that I have never been ejected from a jet using a Martin Baker ejection seat.  Of course, I am not all that sure I want to be qualified to own the watch, with that as the bar for entry.  Luckily, there are two other versions of the watch (minus the “Martin-Baker Red” barrel) that I could own, should I want to lay down the cash.

So I could buy the MBII, with white numerals on the bezel and a black second hand (as opposed to yellow on the MBI), and an anti-shock symbol on the face instead of the “MB” logo.  I also can’t get it in the red barrel of the MBI, but I could buy it in orange, anthracite or green.  I would be getting the same modified BE-36AE automatic chronometer, with glucydur balance, anachron balance spring, Nivaflex 1 mainspring, and Bremeont molded and skeletonized rotor beating at 28,800 bph with 38 hour power reserve.  Though, since there is no exhibition case-back, only my jeweler will see the rotor.  You also get a 43mm hardened stainless steel Trip-Tick® case with a bi-directional rotating bezel and an inner soft iron anti-magnetic Faraday cage and patented anti-shock movement mount, all to protect the movement should you need to get ejected again.

In addition to these options, there is a third watch, a GMT.  It utilizes a modified calibre BE-93-2AE automatic chronometer with a 42 hour power reserve.  Though the site does not list the details, photos show the GMT also in a really lovely bronze case (not just the barrel).  The Bremont brand itself is fairly new, having started in 2002 focused on producing high quality pilot’s watches in the UK.  All the watches in this line come with a calf-skin leather strap and a NATO strap, are individually numbered, and are C.O.S.C. certified chronometers.  bremont.com
