It’s Saturday, so that means it’s time for another edition of Watching the Web. Here, we highlight interesting articles we come across on other sites, as well as identify which of our own recent articles were the most popular over the last week or so. For this week, we have some high-end Hermes straps, a hand-engraved Rolex Milgauss, and a new rounded-off Trintec Zulu. From our pages, it’s the Matt show, with his posts on the Lew & Huey Phantom, Chronos Wearable, and Top 5 Picks articles taking the top honors.
We have featured a variety of watch strap reviews over the years, all solidly in the affordable end of the spectrum. What about straps that would be solidly attached to luxury watches, perhaps something from a well-known brand like Hermes? Well, over at Quill & Pad, Elizabeth Doerr visited their strap-making facility and made her own. Check that out right here.
Over at aBlogtoWatch, Ariel goes hands-on with the rather stunning MadeWorn Rolex Milgauss. While this sort of engraving work might not be what everyone would want on their wrist, it certainly is an impressive – and very portable – bit of art. Sure, it throws the warranty out the window, but for something that looks like this? That is a sacrifice you might be willing to make.
Finally, over at TheTimeBum, there is a preview of the new Trintec Zulu-01 watch, which swaps in a more traditional rounded case for the squared-off designs that they have been more well-known for. Now, let’s turn out attention to our own pages. A brand that is always popular here is Lew & Huey, who have built a solid following with the production and sale of several watches through Kickstarter. The newest model, the Phantom, is a modern take on a pilot’s watch, and it is now in stock. Matt liked the look and build of the watch, and the lume is very impressive – just check out the photos and see for yourself.
The next most popular article of the week was Matt’s writeup on the Chronos Wearable. While many smart watches focus on replacing the watch on your wrist, the Chronos instead wants to bring smarts to whatever watch(es) you already have. This seems like a clever route to go, and we are working on getting one in for review.
Finally, we have Matt’s list of what he’s considering to be the top 5 watches of the year for WWR. It’s a solid roundup, and sort of narrows the focus a little bit from all the watches that came out and that we saw. These run the gamut from our favorite affordables to some very high-end stuff, so consider it a sort of snack-size version of what we wrote about this year.

We also want to put the call out for wrist shots of our reader’s favorite (or at least favorite of the moment) watches. Put together an email of your wrist shot and tell us a little about the watch and why you love it. If you happened to be introduced to it through our site (or won it through a give-away), even better. Just make sure the image is a JPEG and at least 800 pixels wide. The last few weeks have had reader wrist shots, so keep it going guys (and gals).
