Vilhelm is at it again! After their successful launch of the Vilhelm Elemental which Patrick reviewed back in April 2016 they have come out with the Talos. The Elemental did very well with their mix of forged carbon, titanium, and ceramic to create their unique cases. This time around with the Talos they are mixing bronze and carbon, and wow do they work well together.
This watch gets me in so many ways. First off I am a scuba diving junky and have an obsession with dive watches. The other thing which brings me back to my youth is where they got the name for this model. The Talos name comes from the 1963 episode of Jason and the Argonauts. Talos was the large bronze statue of a warrior and the guardian of Crete that awoke to battle Jason. Back when I was a kid in the 70’s this was so cool to watch, and now Talos is on a watch.
Going beyond the cool name this watch just looks cool. Seeing that dark bronze case mixed with the forged carbon just looks fantastic. The hands on the dial have the look of large swords ready for battle and at the 12 o’clock position is the very cool Trojan helmet. From what I can see in the photos there is a lot of dimension to that dial and everything looks well balanced. Powering this Talos is the Swiss Sellita SW200 movement. Since this is made as a diver they have done good and made this water resistant to 500m.
From what I can see in the photos the lume on this is going to be fantastic. Most watches you would expect the hands and hour makers to be lumed but this goes to a new level. Along with the hands and hour makers there is also a fully lumed chapter right. All these combined really would stand out in the dark.
Ok so here is what you get on their kickstarter. Early bird prices start at $660.oo USD and you get one watch with your choice of dial options. This to me is a great price for a truly unique time piece which is powered by a Swiss movement. I want to see this watch made to so go check them out and back them on Kickstarter.
