The last time we talked to you about the Vessi Weekend, it was in a lowtop style (you can see that here). Those are great for warm weather, but when things get a bit colder (and the weather a bit messier), you probably want something with a taller profile. Of course, there’s their Stormburst. If you want something with a tidier (read: not so sneaker-looking) profile, then the Vessi Weekend Chelsea may be what you’re looking for.

Vessi Weekend Chelsea: what they are

Basically, you can take the regular Vessi Weekend, and put a taller upper on it. Of course, Chelsea boots have a very specific style to them, with the elastic panels on the side of the ankles to make it easier to pull the boots on and off, as well as helping you move in them. Chelsea boots are also known for a snugger fit (since there are no laces to tighten), and the Vessi Weekend Chelsea definitely hits that mark.

Wearing the boots around

As I mentioned, the Vessi Weekend Chelsea are a snugger fit. While the lowtop version had a good bit of stretch and movement to them, the taller profile lends itself to a snug fit. In many ways, because of the nature of the woven upper they’re using, it can feel almost like having a second pair of socks over the top of the socks you’ve already got on.

For me, that meant I wanted to wear these with a thinner pair of socks. Sure, you can wear a bulkier wool sock under these, as the material will stretch around the sock. For me, that just led to too constricting of a feel. So, it’s thinner socks for me. And since these boots aren’t particularly insulated, these feel like more of a spring and fall boot, rather than the winter.

Fortunately, winter came late to Chicagoland, and we had warmer weather (in the 40s) with rain, so I was able to put these to the test, along with their rain jacket. First and foremost, these definitely kept my feet dry, and with the snugger fit, there was absolutely zero heel slip in these as I wore them around. Once I got going, they felt natural, and the soles gave me plenty of steady grip as I moved around in the damp.

Wrapping things up

If you’re looking for a casual rain-ready boot that keeps a clean profile, it would be hard to argue against the Vessi Weekend Chelsea. They’re available in both women’s (5 colors) and men’s (8 colors) sizing, just full sizes. I wear a size 12, and I felt that the boot fit true to that size. Regardless of the size or style of the Vessi Weekend Chelsea that you choose, the price remains the same – $160. Get yourself ready for spring directly at vessi.com
