By now, I think we’re all familiar with what Traser is creating – namely, tactical watch designs that are lit up with tritium tubes on the dial, and a luminescent gasket on the crystal. A majority of their designs utilize quartz movements, which make sense for a hard-duty watch. If you really like having an automatic movement, though, then the new Traser P99 A Tactical is what you’ll want to check out.
Traser P99 A Tactical: what it is
The Traser P99 design has quite the history, being a flagship of sorts for Traser, succeeding the original P6500. There have been a number of variants over the years, and most recently, we reviewed the P99Q. As you might guess, that Q means it has a quartz movement, while the “A” in this watch declares the automatic movement tucked away inside.
So, what does that mean you’re getting? A polymer case that’s reinforced with carbon fiber, so it’s light, strong, and has an interesting pattern to it. Inside that is a steel liner, which helps to protect the movement. On top of that case, you’ve got a grippy bi-directional bezel, with lume-filled numerals. For tritium you’ve got a cross set in the bezel “pip”, and then a slew of tubes on the dial indices, handset, and as part of the Traser logo.
What’s different about this one
The big change with the Traser P99 A Tactical, of course, is the inclusion of that Swiss automatic movement. There are no details on the specific make of the movement, but I’m sure the eagle-eyed among you will sort that out from the movement photos. In terms of functionality, it means we have the basic three-hander time display, and a date display (with an oversized cutout) that stretches from 6 to 9, with the date indication at 7:30. Myself, I would have preferred a simple date window, but that’s perhaps just me.
Wrapping things up
The Traser P99 A Tactical is available right now, with it arriving on your doorstep in 4-5 working days after you place your order. There are three versions currently – all have the same carbon fiber dial, with the main difference being the strap that the watch comes with. If you opt for the textile strap, it’ll be $1,165, while the beefy rubber strap bumps the price upto $1,220. Check out all three options, and order yours, directly at traser.com
