Our friends over at Timex are no stranger to partnering up with other companies to offer new and interesting twists on their designs. They’ve teamed up with Bespoke Post in the past, and now they’re back with another watch, the Timex x Bespoke Post Field Watch.
Timex x Bespoke Post Field Watch: what it is
When we hear the term “field watch”, we can quickly form a mental image. In this case, if you’re picturing white hands and numerals on a black dial, you’re spot on. However, you’re probably not thinking of quite the right case shape. You see, this watch is based on the Timex Viscount from the 1970s, which offers up a case shape that is definitely not your standard round circle.
Other vintage touches
If you’re going to base the design off of a watch from history, there’s no harm in replicating other aspects as well. Here, we have a much smaller case than modern tastes would tend to demand, coming in at 36mm wide, and a relatively narrow 18mm lug width. Topping the case is an domed mineral glass crystal (mimicking the look of the original acrylic crystal), and the WR rating is held at a modest 50m. For a field watch, this seems a bit light, but that just means you won’t want to go for a swim with it.
The Bespoke Post touches
Here, things were done in a restrained manner. The dial of the watch doesn’t reflect Bespoke Post at all. For that, you’ll need to look at the crown and the caseback. Which, you know, we like – it keeps it subtle, and it’s one of those design elements that you need to know to look for.
Wrapping things up
The Timex x Bespoke Post Field Watch just launched today. Powered by a quartz movement and paired to a olive-colored textile strap, it’s coming in at a reasonable $159. We like the crisp legibility, and even the additional splashes of color showing up in the dial (which will make for easy contrast stitching pairing on straps).
