I don’t know about you, but when I picture a Timex Ironman watch, I’m thinking of something like this. In short, they’re normally clean digital watches with oversize buttons (often at the base of the dial) to start/stop the timer. What they have not been are analog-digital (aka ana-digi) dials. At least, they weren’t until the Timex Ironman Adrenaline was released.

Timex Ironman Adrenaline: a G-SHOCK alternative?

Now, if you’ve been reading the articles on the Timex Ironman Adrenaline, you’ve undoubtedly seen the comparisons being made, calling this watch a competitor to the G-SHOCK lineup. And sure, in some regards, it may be. But we prefer to think of it as it’s own thing, as the G-SHOCK case construction and aesthetics are something else.

What it is

The Timex Ironman Adrenaline is how Timex approaches a watch that is meant to be used for hard-wearing activities (hence the synthetic case) but also wants to look like it belongs in, say, an office setting. How does it do that? With a neat trick – if you hold the pusher at 4 o’clock for 5 seconds, the digital display shuts off, keeping the watch truly as an analog dial.

Despite that, it still has those Ironman chops. You’ve got the stop/start button still down at the 6 o’clock position, and then you’ve got the pushers flanking the crown to work through the various functions. Those functions include 50-lap memory, countdown timer, daily alarm, and dual time zone tracking.

Wrapping things up

We think that the $139 Timex Ironman Adrenaline is going to find appeal for a lot of buyers, coming in two different color schemes. It will be aimed at those who have larger wrists (or like oversized watches), with the 46mm case. Flip side of that is that the digital display should be very, very readable.
