When it was first introduced, the Giorgio Galli S1, it was intended to be the most “Timex” that a Timex watch has been. That may have hit the mark, but you don’t just leave that alone. Which brings us to a new edition that recently got released, the Timex Giorgio Galli S2 Automatic.
What we like about this watch is the elegant simplicity. The dial is sterile, with silver hands and a silver ring (used to indicate the hours) set on top of a black dial. In our eyes, this is the epitome of what we’d call a “black tie” sort of a watch. Crisp and well-sorted, it will slip under a cuff until it’s time to check the time. And, with the sculpted 3D case coming in at 38mm, it should fit a wide variety of wrists.
That’s our take on it; here’s what Timex says about the design:
The Giorgio Galli S2 is a boundary-pushing step towards the future, combining rich minimalism with the precision and expertise only found at the Timex Group Atelier in Switzerland. At the heart of the S2 collection lies a remarkable 38mm injection-molded stainless-steel 316L skeleton case that forms the foundation and allows for a complex construction of inserted titanium on both the case back and center insert. The dial is encased in a domed sapphire crystal with anti-glare coating and features stainless-steel hour markers that create a captivating visual aesthetic. Adding to its allure, a transparent case back offers a glimpse into the intricate automatic movement, revealed beneath a sapphire crystal.
It’s an absolutely lovely piece, though the price tag might be a bit of a reach. Not that anyone would balk at paying $975 for a well-sorted, dressy automatic. No, it’s more that we’re used to Timex being much more towards the affordable end of things. This? Well, it demonstrates that even Timex can help us reach towards luxury watches.
