Earlier this week, we brought you word about a reissue of a 1995 Timex that was full of Indiglo. While that one felt sort of like a dive watch, it fell a little short. Well, the Timex Deepwater Meridian 200 takes us all the way there, without breaking the bank.

Timex Deepwater Meridian 200: what it is

Your first look at the Timex Deepwater Meridian 200, and you know that this is all about being a dive watch (even without knowing the 200m WR rating). You’ve got a classic handset paired to the Timex version of the bars-and-pips indices, and then there’s the cyclops over the date disc. Sure, it mimics a design element from a Swiss diver, but it’s also practical, and a feature I rather like. Rounding it all out, you’ve got the 44mm case paired to a 20mm synthetic rubber strap.

Why we like it

Frankly, the Timex Deepwater Meridian 200 hits all of the things we like in a diver, both in terms of both the aesthetics and the capabilities. With a 200m WR rating, you’re going to be set for any swimming most of us are likely to encounter. And the quartz movement is going to keep you on time.

What we’d change

Pairing the Timex Deepwater Meridian 200 to a synthetic rubber strap makes sense, especially with the styling that it enables (both in terms of colors, and the actual look of the strap). However, I find myself missing the lack of choice of a bracelet. If they had a matched steel bracelet (preferably with solid end links), then this would be a great no-worry watch that could cover a lot of scenarios.

Wrapping things up

Bracelet quibbles aside (and we know not everyone likes a bracelet on a watch), there’s a lot going for the Timex Deepwater Meridian 200 to recommend it. And really, with a 20mm lug width, you’re going to be able to put a lot of different straps on it. While the base stainless steel version comes in at $229, the PVD-coated version bumps it up to $239. All three have the wave-inspired dial, and will have you ready for summer. Check it out, and order yours, over at timex.com
