Timex. A brand that needs no introduction because, unfortunately, it’s long been associated with Ironman sports watches and so called drugstore watches bought for a few dollars and thrown away a year later. The company has made great strides, however, and is now one of the finest purveyors of fashion watches in the world and, interestingly, is bringing amazing pieces into the low-priced automatic range.
The 38mm Marlin Jet automatic is a perfect example of this expansion. It’s an automatic watch with exhibition back, nylon band, and wonderful design. The bezel is clear plastic and hearkens back to Timex’s Space Age models of the 1950s and 60s. The whole package is just great, very wearable, and, at $280, quite affordable.
Classic Design Meets Modern Durability
The Marlin Jet takes inspiration from Timex’s classic mid-century style, delivering a look that feels both timeless and refreshingly simple. The watch’s 38mm stainless steel case offers a comfortable, medium-sized fit, while the silver-tone finish adds a sleek touch. Its dial captures the elegance of the 1960s with a minimalist layout, using slim hands and indices that ensure easy readability. There is, sadly, no lume on the face so it won’t be great in the dark.
The watch runs an unadorned Miyota movement that is visible through a small window on the back of the watch. It’s not a very pretty movement but it works and there isn’t much lash in the seconds hand when setting the time and date.
The fabric strap on the Marlin Jet Automatic keeps things versatile and comfortable. Made from durable material, the strap holds up well to daily wear while offering a softness that doesn’t compromise on durability. Its textured look adds a casual feel to the otherwise refined watch, making it a versatile choice for various settings. Honestly it looks like something you’d wear with a cabana shirt while holding a Mai Tai and I love it. It also comes in aquamarine but I love this champagne model.
It’s also water-resistant up to 50 meters, meaning it can withstand splashes or short dips, although it’s not intended for swimming or diving. The watch’s dial features a very small date window at the three o’clock.
The Timex Marlin Jet Automatic brings classic style and modern convenience together, making it a great choice for anyone looking to elevate their everyday look. It’s a $280 automatic watch from a brand that has been around for decades. It’s well worth the investment and I really like what Timex is doing these days. \
