Though it seems to have lost some of it’s luster and momentum lately, there is no denying that steampunk styling is an active, well, “thing”, for lack of a better term. This is an aesthetic that I had some interest in some years ago, and I still look keenly upon steampunk reimaginings of things. Today, we have a pocket watch – the Starling Watch Inception – that goes for a steampunk feel with an interesting bit of very modern technology hidden under the dial.

If you stick around long enough, everything old becomes new and hip again, and now it is the pocket watch’s turn. And keep in mind, the very first wrist watches for the masses were just pocket watches with lugs, so it seems only fitting to circle back to our roots. Growing up as I did in the Metro Detroit area, it was near impossible to escape the impact that Henry Ford had on Detroit. Even to this day, there is a large museum campus (The Henry Ford) and hospital system that bears his name, and Ford family owns the Detroit Lions. Oh, yeah, and those blue ovals still have a weighty presence around town as well. Given that, it is fitting that the limited edition release this year is the Shinola Henry Ford Pocket watch.
