The last time I wrote about Breitling, I mentioned that many of their watches really had not captured my attention, as they simply felt too cluttered for my tastes. This seems to have changed, much to the better, with the Transocean collection. I really quite liked the looks of the Transocean 38, and the new Breitling Transocean Chronograph 1915 looks to be more of the same.
Breitling is very likely a brand that needs no introduction for most of us. While I can’t say I’m intimately familiar with all of the lineup, I have a passing knowledge of the brand. And it has stayed passing, because I have not found watches in their lineup that have appealed to be previously. While I appreciate the aviation heritage, the dials have often felt too cluttered for a landlubber like me. That is, until I came across the Breitling Transocean 38.
A grail watch, the thing that dreams are made of. We all have them, well out of our price range watches to aspire to… one day. Touch of Modern (a private, limited time sale site, free to join) is running couple of sales right now (various brands, Breitling) on several drool worthy watches, with prices reduced (at least for me) from the stratosphere to the mere upper atmosphere. Maybe, just maybe, a 60% or so price drop will entice someone to pull a trigger.
When it comes to aviation watches, and chronographs specifically, Breitling is a brand that is no doubt near the top of the list for most people immersed in that particular style of watch. And when you hear Breitling, you probably call to mind the Navitimer, as it’s just about the iconic model for the brand. What you may not know is that they had another equally capable watch, the Breitling 765 AVI / Co-Pilot.
Somehow, I’ve managed to run into a lack of ideas to cover in Historical Horology, so I’m going run a few videos for you here of how Breitling maintains and polishes their watches, should you decide to send yours in for service. Not 100% in line with what we’ve covered in this series before, but they interesting (and easy) viewing.
It’s a new month, to be sure, but we’ll be looking back over the last (and…
