Watch Video Rewind for June 5, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Watch Video Rewind, where we post watch related videos that peak our interest. This week, with Father’s Day just two weeks away, I thought I would post some video reviews/stories about a few watches I would love to receive for Father’s Day. Considering the situation, these will all be affordable to aspirational (at least for me), with nothing that gets too far out there.

Introducing the Gavox Avidiver

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

When it comes to watches, many folks will often have a a favorite watch from particular brands. Less common is an expressed interest in the wider line, especially with the indie watch brands. For me, at least, Gavox is one of those brands that I think have something in all of their models. Sure, the earlier watches we very much similar to what we saw from Techne, but that’s not a bad thing. As of late, though, Gavox has really stepped up their game, with introductions of watches like the Aurora and Squadron. Their most recent model, the Gavox Avidiver, shows the brand continuing to branch out.

Introducing Belmoto Timepieces

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Sometimes, a brand will want to branch out into new designs – this happens quite a bit, across many industries. If there is some concern that the new direction might dilute or otherwise confuse what had already been built, a new brand will be created, allowing some other avenues to be explored. Of course, all the expertise and history travel along from the sister brand, which makes what we have with the Belmoto Timepieces an interesting proposition.

Watching the Web for December 5, 2015

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

It is hard to believe it is December already, but it is, so it is time to roll out our weekly edition of Watching the Web. Here, we highlight interesting articles we come across on other sites, as well as identify which of our own recent articles were the most popular over the last week or so. For this week’s article, I have an ultra thin tourbillon, a new brand from one of the men behind Magrette, and a Damascas steel watch from GoS. From our pages, the posts about new Magrette models, the Lew & Huey Phantom and the Crowdfunding Round Up topped the list.

The WWR 2015 Holiday Gift Guide

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Earlier this year I was attending an alumni event and the subject matter turned to watches (how I turned it there I don’t recall). One of the group asked what I would recommend for her to get her boyfriend as a gift. My first question was how much money she wanted to spend. When she said roughly $1,000, I immediately recommended a Weiss. Her question also got me thinking about how I could organize the 2015 holiday gift guide. So for this iteration, I will recommend my favorite watch (or watch related gift) in each of several price ranges. Chances are, if I like it, especially if it under about $1,500, we have covered it in the past, since that is the kind of people we are; but there may be watches here (especially at the high end) that have not graced our pages.

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Welcome once again (or just welcome if you are a first time reader) to our regular Saturday post, Watching the Web. Here, Patrick and I take turns scouring the internet for interesting watch related articles we can point you towards, and we get a chance to crow about our own more popular posts over the last week or so, just in case you missed them. For the external links this week, I wanted to point out a review of the Seiko Spirit SCVE003, an essay on not owning a Rolex, a review of a single hand MeisterSinger watch, and a little wrist time with the MB&F Legacy Machine 1. From here at Wrist Watch Review, the most popular articles were the Deep Blue Sun Diver 1K, the Torgoen Scorpion, and a look at a pair of EDC posts.

Fathers Day Gift Guide 2015, for Dads and Grads

Mom has had her day, and my birthday has come and gone, but it is not too early to start thinking about gifts for dads, and since it is late spring, gifts for grads as well. In this Fathers Day gift guide, I am going to point out some of my favorite watches and accessories that have crossed our (real or virtual) desks over the last few months, organized by price.
