Well, the folks at MTM, and their various tactical watches, have certainly not been strangers around these parts.  Today, we’re going to take a look at what I’d consider to be their entry-level model, the Hypertec.

The Hypertec doesn’t offer any of the nifty amenities the previous models I reviewed had on tap, like inductive charging or blinding LEDs.  However, it does offer some great, basic functionality along side some classic styling.

On the functionality front, you get the following with this watch:

  • Quartz movement for hours/minutes/seconds/date
  • A military / 24 hour hand
  • 200 meter water resistance
  • Good lume

On the style front, MTM went with the classic canteen-style case (in DLC stainless steel) complete an o-ring sealed screw-down crown and sapphire crystal.  With the canteen protector on the crown, it makes an already large watch (44mm by 15mm thick) that much bigger.

Additionally, the rubber strap they include with the watch adds some more visual bulk.  In other words, make sure you like your watches big before springing for this one!  Thankfully, the rubber makes for a comfortable strap, regardless of the temperature.  Just be aware it is a bit of a lint magnet.

And that’s where we’ll leave things for today.  Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the usability of the watch, and go over some improvements that I think could be made to the piece.
