We’ve featured some watches from March LA.b on these pages before, but this is the first opportunity that we’ve had to do a hands-on review. Today, we’ll be taking a look at their AM2 Boss model.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, they’re based in Los Angeles and Biarritz, France, and design watches that they state are “rooted in vintage inspiration.” I would agree with that sentiment, as many of the watches seem to take a Mad Men aesthetic. While the AM2 line draws from this, it has a more modern feel to it.
The sample we were sent for review is the Boss model, and it’s a very blacked-out model. In fact, black is the primary color, except for splashes of green on the dial, second hand, and the number 3 on the date wheel. Why green? They feel it symbolizes life, as well as their committment to the cause of preventing suicide. This green is also present on the underneath of the strap, and in the caseback window.
Corresponding with the vintage inspiration, this rectangular case measures in at 38mm, and has a smooth black PVD coating. They way this is bonded onto the angular sides of the case, it really feels like a stealth watch, reminiscent of the the fighter jets. Also in line with a vintage look, we’ve got a rather domed sapphire crystal with AR coating.
Under the dial, we’ve got an ETA 2893-2 automatic movement, with ETACHRON regulator and regulator corrector. On the movement, the rotor has been customized, which is visible through the green exhibition caseback we mention earlier.
Thankfully, though the dial is blacked out, the hands do have a basic coating of lume on them, so you’re able to tell the time when the lights go out. And now, that’s where the lights go out on the review – we”ll pick things up again tomorrow.
