While there are any number of watches out there in the world that you and I are unlikely to run across in the wild – let alone own – it does not make us any less enamored of them, does it? The latest to hit my inbox that fits that category is the Vicenterra AstroLuna.
If you’re familiar with Vicenterra, you’re no doubt thinking of their off-center dials with a hand-painted globe that rotates throughout the day. Well, with the Vicenterra AstroLuna, we’ve now got a luminous moon joining the display as well. Above these, you’ve a dial made of aventurine, a type of glass that reproduces the deep, starry sky like no other.
So, right off the bat, the Vicenterra AstroLuna is quite the looker (and available in either a 43.5mm case or 41mm case). It’s also a bit of a mechanical marvel as well. The movement starts as a Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier caliber – Seed 3000 – to which an additional module is added to allow those globes to spin. The earth rotates around, completing a revolution in 24 hours. The moon? That rotates on a 29.53125 day cycle, and will not need to be reset for 126 years. Suffice to say, you will not want to let this movement run down once you’ve got it set, if you can help it.
Want to pick up the Vicenterra AstroLuna? The two “plain” titanium versions are available now – 99 examples of each case size – for CHF 18’250 (about $20,560). On the other hand, if you’d prefer a darker version – called black aventurine and with only 25 pieces of each case size – that can be done as well. One version is available now for CHF 20’700 (about $23,320), with three more coming down the line. These might be out of reach for us, but these are the designs that will have you reaching for the starts. You can check out all the details – and reserve your own – over at vicenterra.ch
