80 years ago, the 99th Pursuit Squadron first took flight – a group we know better, today, as the Tuskegee Airmen. In honor of that anniversary – and to help the work of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc – there’s a new 300-piece limited edition of the AVI-8 P-51 Mustang Tuskegee Airmen Chronograph.
This particular model is fitting, as P-51 Mustangs were flown as escort for the heavy bombers, so it’s a fitting canvas to start from. What all have the modified for this release? Here’s the rundown:
- a custom-built crown guard, with micro-detailing inspired by the P-51 Mustang’s engine exhaust
- dial is perfectly designed with aviation elements drawn from the Red Tails’ P-51 Mustangs
- The “Tuskegee Airmen” is stamped at the 1H position as a reminder of their legacy
- Contrasting colors for the strap and its loops are drawn from the artwork on the Red Tails’ P-51 Mustangs
Past those changes, it’s the AVI-8 Mustang that we’ve seen before, complete with the VK68 Mecha-quartz movement that gets you that crisp chronograph seconds snap-back. Available in two dial colors (black or white), the watch also comes with a second strap, all for $350. Check it all out over at avi-8.com
