When it comes to watches from Rado, we’re accustomed to big, bold hits of color. Most commonly, that takes the form of the ceramic that they use quite a bit on their cases and bracelets. With their latest collaboration – the Rado DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan – the colors blast is all about the dial.
Rado DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan: what it is
The Rado DiaStar hails back to the 1960s, and the case shape is really what sells that era for us. This particular collaboration, however, really reinforces the 60s retro-futurism vibe that scratches an itch I didn’t know I had.
First off, you’ve got that funky strap. It’s a rubber strap, but it’s shaped so it looks like it’s got pillows making up the “links”. Or, to our eyes, the upholstered surface of a pilot’s chair in a rocket. The dial then looks like it’s ripped from the console of that same rocket, with teal accents running in there making it look like a radar sweep.
Want even more color?
Well, friend, the Rado DiaStar Original x Tej Chauhan has it. Set into the radiant lines, you’ve got day and date readouts (at 3 o’clock) with their own color schemes, and an interesting font choice on the day. The hour and minute hands are skeletonized, but done in white so they stand out starkly against the dial. For one last hit of color (aside from the golden case), you’ve got the bright yellow seconds hand moving around, reinforcing the radar feel.
