Over the years, many brands have played with the concept of a mystery dial. They can be wildly complex (and almost unreadable), or they can be delightfully simple. Falling firmly in the latter camp is the Q Timex 1975 Enigma Reissue.
Q Timex 1975 Enigma: the mystery dial
If you simply read (without seeing photos) details of a watch dial that had time indications that “floated”, you’d probably think of some sort of translucent disc setup, right? Well, with this watch, you have a traditional three-hand setup.
To make it appear like the time indications are floating, a majority of the handset is painted a navy blue to match the dial. Only the times of the hour and minute hand are in white, and the seconds hand has a red pip. Covering the central spindle is another color-matched dot. In short, it can kind of look like the time indicators are floating around the dial.
The hardware
As you might surmise, given the Q prefix on the model name, the Q Timex 1975 Enigma is indeed a quartz-driven watch (which is fitting for a ’75 model). Along with the time indications, you get day and date readouts, all wrapped up in a 37mm stainless steel case. Topping it off is a domed acrylic crystal, and it comes stock with a 20mm bracelet.
Wrapping things up
