Undoubtedly, a number of you are familiar with the Windup Watch Fair. It’s a great way to see a bunch of watches and watch brands in person, as well as come together with like-minded watch folks. It hits Chicago this weekend, and one brand is making a special mark with a new limited-edition watch: the Perrelet Turbine Splash.

Perrelet Turbine Splash: what is it?

Of course, at the core, the Perrelet Turbine Splash is similar to the other Perrelet Turbine watches we’ve seen before. The concept is that you’ve got a watch that – no matter the other touches or materials – features a turbine on the dial side. This allows things to be hidden or revealed, while also bringing a kinetic touch to the dial appearance.

In this case, there are a wild variety of colors that are “splashed” across the under-layer, which means that, as the turbine moves, you get a unique pattern of paint splashes you’re able to see.

The hard specs

Of course, the Perrelet Turbine Splash is not all about splashy colors. It’s also a very technical watch, making use of polycarbonate and carbon fibre to make up the 44mm case. That composite is then topped with a matte black DLC steel bezel (same material on the case back). All of this comes together to provide a 100m WR rating.

Inside the case is the P-331-MH movement. Along with being an automatic, it’s passed ratings by both COSC and Chronofiable. What does this mean for you? Well, it’s going to be about as accurate as a mechanical movement can be.

Wrapping things up

One thing that we found surprising about the Perrelet Turbine Splash is that, while each indice has a different color painted onto the chapter ring, the indices themselves are not actually those colors. We know that tritium exists in those hues, so why not?

Still, that’s a minor quibble, and overall, we like the watch. Myself, I like when we get clever engineering executions (see the dial-side turbine) enmeshed with artistic interpretations to elevate a technical watch with unique materials.

Only 99 of these will be made, and we presume that at least one will be at the Chicago show. If you want to pick one up, they’ll be available for $5,450. perrelet.com
