Though Paulin is a small brand, they’re not immune to following the same paths that larger brands have carved. By that we mean introducing new variant versions of their existing models. Unlike those larger brands, though, Paulin gives the new dial designs/colors unique model numbers. That’s why they released the Paulin Modul D & E last month.

Paulin Modul D & E: what’s new

In many ways, the Paulin Modul D & E are going to be similar to the Modul B that we reviewed previously. The dial layout, fonts used, and even the handset shape is the same. Along with some new dial colors (and different accent colors), the big change for these watches is the inclusion of lume on the hands and the dial. While we didn’t necessarily miss it when we had the Modul B in for review, we are very happy to see it included in the line. It’s just an additional level of functionality that’s good to have. And you know what? Glow in the dark stuff is just plain fun.

Your movement choices

The addition of the Paulin Modul D & E doesn’t mean you just have some additional choices in dial colors (or whether or not you want the glow). Paulin is doing something that’s rather unique, especially for a small brand. The same watch can be had with three different movements across two different case sizes. Basically, if you want the automatic movement, you’re going for the 39mm case, while the smaller 35mm case can be had with either a manually-wound mechanical or a quartz movement.

Wrapping things up

As we mentioned up front, we think that the inclusion of luminous paint on the Paulin Modul D & E is an excellent addition to their design. With the variety of case sizes and movements for the Modul, it’ll make it easy if you want to get a few watches to coordinate across different wrist sizes.

In terms of pricing, that’s all determined by the size and movement. For the 35mm case, the quartz movement is £375 (all prices excluding VAT), while the manually-wound mechanical is £825. Rounding out the range is the 39mm automatic, which comes in at £750. You can order yours (or any prior versions) directly at paulinwatches.com
