Fathers Day Gift Guide 2015, for Dads and Grads

Mom has had her day, and my birthday has come and gone, but it is not too early to start thinking about gifts for dads, and since it is late spring, gifts for grads as well. In this Fathers Day gift guide, I am going to point out some of my favorite watches and accessories that have crossed our (real or virtual) desks over the last few months, organized by price.

Introducing the Gavox Aurora

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Gavox has had some interesting models lately. Most recently, it was the Gavox Squadron (more on that here and here) which was purpose-built for military pilots. Now, with the Gavox Aurora, they have another watch for pilots (designed with input from aviators) that offers something you do not often see with a world-timer – the ability to account for time zones that do not simply shift time by an hour.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Mother’s Day is coming up, and as a service to those gift challenged male readers out there, I though I would highlight a few watches that you may want to get for the woman (or women) in your lives. I am mainly going to focus on watches that we have reviewed relatively recently, though there are a few extras tossed in here. So without further ado, here is out Mother’s Day Gift Guide.

Introducing the Uniform Wares C40

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

The watches created by Uniform Wares have been interesting beasts. They create watches that are very clean, both in terms of the styling executed, as well as the lack of branding and text on the dial. While prior watches from the brand have been on the more casual end of the spectrum, they have now introduced a much dressier creation. Let’s take a closer look at the Uniform Wares C40.

Introducing the Savoy Epic Vault

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Last month was the annual watch show known as Baselworld. In the run up to the show, we had a lot of press releases coming in on things that were to be announced. Then of course as the show got underway, there was another tidal wave of information. This meant that there was a watch I had intended to write about that unfortunately got lost in the shuffle. While Baselworld is now behind us, I think its still worthwhile for us to take a look at the Savoy Epic Vault.

Techne Dual Time, Pilot Friendly

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Techne is a brand that we have not focused on much recently, but both Patrick and I have an appreciation for what the brand is doing. They create attractive and affordable aviation inspired watches, with many of the watches tied to modern fighter planes. Though the Techne Dual Time is not tied to a specific plane this time around, it is pilot oriented with a day/date and a single hand GMT complication.

Video Rewind for March 1, 2015

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Welcome back to our regular feature, the Watch Video Rewind. In this series, we bring to light videos we feel are interesting and worth sharing out with our readers. Over the last 2 weeks, Patrick and I found videos that were not so much education, but more in the vein of watch porn. Well, this week’s videos bridge the gap a bit, with three video showing production of watches at three different price points.

Crowd Funding Wrap Up for February 2015

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

February is now in the books, and with the second month of the year came a number of watch projects on crowd funded sites. Myself, I tend to favor projects listed on Kickstarter, and have purchased a number of them, but there are alternative sites, most notably Indiegogo. In addition to the projects below, I have longer reviews of the Nevo Watch, which is technically over but still collecting pledges in “bonus time;” the Trintec Zulu-07, running through March 7; the Melbourne Watch Company Avalon, running through March 16; and the Mercer Watch Company Brigadier, funding on March 29. I am also working on a write up of a new crowd funded design from Techne with is currently on Rockethub. I have a Techne, and the company has been on our pages several times, so I have no issue in recommending this project if you are looking for a military cockpit style quartz watch,
