Welcome to Watching the Web for July 16, our mid-July foray into watch related articles and watch reviews we find across these inter-webs. This week, I wanted to point out a Prometheus diver, a “value” dress watch, and an interesting woman’s watch, all excellent articles hosted on other watch sites (yes, there are other watch sites). We also get to crow about the articles we write which are popular, is I will point you to our posts on the Timemachinist Naval Destroyer, all that is wrong with watch payola, and the Steinhart Ocean 1 in bronze.
As you might imagine, we get all manner of emails coming in here at WWR telling us about new watches. While this is an invaluable stream of information, it sometimes can have a frustrating signal-to-noise ratio. Fortunately, most of those messages contain an image or two of the watch that is being introduced, and this lets us easily hone in on what is of interest to us and our readers. Even though I did not know anything about the specifications (or even the pricing) of the Alvieri Firenze, when I saw the images, I was fairly certain this would be a watch we would cover.
There seems to be a run on watch brands looking for input from their customers. It is a benefit of this new watch economy that allows the smaller indie brands to reach out directly to the consumer. We saw it before with both Prometheus LINK and Janis Trading LINK, and now we’re seeing it from Uhuru Watches. There was an update that came out earlier this week on their new Ukhozi Pilot watch that also served as a method for asking for that input. Before we get to that, let’s see what the
Another weekend, and that means it’s time for another edition of Watching the Web. This week has been all about the news coming out of Baselworld, so for our wider survey, we’ll point you to some of the more interesting watches that caught our eye. From out own pages, we’ve got the Timex Waterbury, Halios Tropik, and the Prometheus Manta Ray.
Welcome to Watch Video Rewind, our regular survey of interesting watch, watch-making, and/or watch-related videos that we have run across. Today, I’ve got some videos around clocks and gears, custom straps, and a video review of one of our favorite brands, Prometheus.
This week for our look at Everyday Carry, our opportunity to pick the pocket of various people across the globe and see what they call essential, I have pocket dumps from a technologist and a business owner. First up is the post above, courtesy of Peter Thompson, Technologist. The watch he chose to share is Prometheus Jellyfish in titanium. While we have not had the Jellyfish in for a review, we have looked at a couple of Prometheus watches and find them to be well built and affordable divers.
It is no secret that one way to really change up the feel of a watch is to swap out the strap. I have changed one leather strap for another on some watches, and I have gone to nylon NATO as well, but I had not tried out a waxed cotton canvass product like the Suigeneric Straps. Well, I may be late to the party, but I am here now.
Thanks for taking the time to check out our weekly installment, Watching the Web, where we point you toward some interesting watches and articles that have popped up over the last week (or so), and take a second look at what were our more popular pages. Today, I am going to highlight the Roger Dubuis Excaliber Tourbillon from ABTW, the Time Bum’s review of the Prometheus Piranha, and Tempus Fugit’s lunch with the Michael Happé from Gavox. From our site, we have the Ventus Caspian on Kickstarter, the AVI-8 Hawker Harrier II, and The Christopher Ward C7 Rapide Chronometer.
We have had some other posts on discounts popping up here at the end of the year, and I have had a few hit my inbox that I wanted to group together and share with you all at once – hence, a discounts roundup.
