Thank you all for making time on your end of summer weekend to check out this weeks Watching the Web…
There are Submariner watches a-plenty in this world of homages and replicas, but every one in a rare while, comes a man, a man who isn’t intimidated, and his watch. And I’m talkin’ about the Doc here. Sometimes, there’s a man, well, he’s the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that’s the Doc.
It is Saturday again, so it is once again time for Watching the Web, where we take you on a spin through the world of on-line watch sites, as well as highlight some of our most popular posts for the last week or so. This week, I am going to highlight a very timely release from Romain Jerome that I know Patrick loves, one of th emost interesting bits of news out of Basel, and a list of one site’s top watches from the show. Here at our site, we have a review of the Filson Dutch Harbor, a request from Janis Trading for a bit of help from the fans, and the Hastings Heritage Edition.
Earlier this week, we caught word of some input that Janis Trading (formerly known as Lew & Huey; L&H is…
It is hard to believe it is December already, but it is, so it is time to roll out our weekly edition of Watching the Web. Here, we highlight interesting articles we come across on other sites, as well as identify which of our own recent articles were the most popular over the last week or so. For this week’s article, I have an ultra thin tourbillon, a new brand from one of the men behind Magrette, and a Damascas steel watch from GoS. From our pages, the posts about new Magrette models, the Lew & Huey Phantom and the Crowdfunding Round Up topped the list.
I hope everyone here in the US has enjoyed their Thanksgiving and there were no fired turkey disasters. For our readers outside the US, I hope you had a lovely Thursday and Friday as well, and welcome to Watching the Web for November 28. We take this time to highlight some interesting watch reviews and watch related posts from other sites, as well as highlight our own more popular posts of the last week or so. This week, you can get your freak on with Ulysse Nardine, Zenith pulls your chain, and the FTC clears the air. From our own site, we have the 2015 Gift Guide, Lew & Huey’s sale, and the Van Speyk Dutch Diver.
Black Friday deals are in full swing, and the watch companies out there do not want to be forgotten. We have already mentioned discounts from Lew & Huey and on the Tempest Viking V2, but here are a few more Black Friday and Holiday Deals designed to get a new watch on your (or a loved one’s) wrist. And if none of these watches tickle your fancy, you can also check out our 2015 WWR Holiday Gift Guide.
Is it my fault? Am I not being clear enough when I review the Cobra de Calibre watches and say, “hey you should check this guy’s work out.” There have been a few great success stories with crowd funding where one project turned into two or three and then into a full blown brand (looking at you Lew & Huey). I can’t understand how John Lee has not yet developed a cult following that funds all his projects. Well, it isn’t too late to jump on board with his latest, the Cobra de Calibre Crossfire seeking funding on Kickstarter.
Dear Hopeful Crowd Funded Watchmaker; Allow me to start by saying that I think you are doing something really cool, and that I am a huge fan. This is the first time in history where the power to build, market and sell a watch is not vested in the few, but open to anyone with an idea and a bit of money. I think that a lot of the projects that you come up with are attractive, interesting and offer a great value. Heck, I have backed a couple of projects myself. And to keep from singling anyone out, the crowdfunded projects I show here are the projects that I feel are doing it the right way.
We have had a few different posts as of late on discounts, but that all slowed down quite a bit after the whole Black Friday / Cyber Monday stuff was over. Fortunately for you, we do have a few more watch deals available for you.
