With our post yesterday, we brought you word of a new brand and their inaugural watch, out of Estonia. Fortunately for us (and you) this also coincides with our efforts to start putting some more questions to the brands we work with. With that, let’s get into the latest installment of our series, “Interview with a Watch Maker.” Today, we’re talking with Tõnis Leissoo of Estonia 1918.
Titanium. Dive Watch. Kickstarter. With those three descriptors, it would seem that we have all the makings for one crazy popular watch. And, judging by the results of the funding project (which finished at 115% of their goal), the popularity has been proven out. While we did not have access to fully-functional versions of the watches the brand was flogging, we did have some pre-production samples in. While funding has closed, we’re certain that these will be hitting some form of retail sales, so read on to see if you’ll be wanting to pick up a titanium Scuro dive watch.
Thank you all for making time on your end of summer weekend to check out this weeks Watching the Web…
The awkward-to-pronounce name aside, what we have here is an interesting watch. What makes it unusual is, well, almost everything….
Welcome back to Watching the Web, our regular Saturday feature where we explore a couple of interesting watch posts from across the web, plus highlight our most popular posts. This week, I have new (ish) watches from Cobra de Calibre, Panerai, andHamilton. From our site, you guys found the Steinhart Ocean 1 Bronze, the Oak & Oskar Sanford and the Jubileon Superellipse as the most interesting posts of the week.
Imagine the classic shot of an old world map, with a DC-3 propeller plane and a dashed line trailing behind it showing the journey. If I were making a promotion video of this watch, I would totally use that shot with the line going from Singapore to Switzerland, with a fade to the Jubileon Superellipse watch on the wrist of a gentleman holding a glass of scotch while traveling first-class.
Welcome back to our regular weekend feature, Watching the Web. In this series, we take a look back at interesting articles from across the wider web of watch sites, as well as highlighting some of the most read articles from our own sites. From our friends in the world of watch writing, we have a limited-edition Seiko, a Davosa hands-on, and an editorial around the accuracy of mechanical watches. From our own pages, we have the latest bronze Steinhart, a dual timezone watch currently on Kickstarter, our latest entry in our “Interview with a Watch Maker” series, and a great roundup of options to keep your pockets organized.
Nomad watches are an interesting watch in the most genuine use of the word. Patrick and I looked at our first email from Nomad and the attached images we got, and Patrick’s first comment was that the shape of the watch was “interesting.”
Reuven and Shneur Lakein of Brooklyn’s Rebeltime launched their Kickstarter earlier this month, and have blown past their initial funding…
