Thomas Earnshaw Meteorite Watch Review

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

There are a variety of finishes and styles available for dials these days, and you can pretty easily find something that is to your liking. If you want something that is unique to the piece, but do not actually want to go the route of a custom watch, natural materials are your friend. This often takes the form of colorful stones (think marble) or even semi-precious stones. For something a bit more “out of this world”, you might opt for something like the Thomas Earnshaw Meteorite.

Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic, Yes, Michael Kors

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Let us be honest here, there are people to whom the designer is as important as the actual design. I see a fair number of watches out in the malls that are put out by clothing brands and are little more than overpriced quartz three handers. Which is why this watch is intriguing. The Michael Kors Jetmaster Automatic is a mechanical watch, it is reasonably straight forward in its design, and it is not outrageously priced. Could this be a way for designers to fight back against the coming wave of the iWatch?

Introducing The Shinola Henry Ford Pocket Watch

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Growing up as I did in the Metro Detroit area, it was near impossible to escape the impact that Henry Ford had on Detroit. Even to this day, there is a large museum campus (The Henry Ford) and hospital system that bears his name, and Ford family owns the Detroit Lions. Oh, yeah, and those blue ovals still have a weighty presence around town as well. Given that, it is fitting that the limited edition release this year is the Shinola Henry Ford Pocket watch.

Anstead Oceanis – A second try at their premier watch

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

I have written about it here before, and I will say again, that I own an Anstead Oceanis. The original Anstead Oceanis, as sold on Kickstarter. It was my first really big (relatively) purchase on that site, my first crowd funded watch, and one of the reasons why I am currently on staff here at WWR; it stirred enough passion in me to offer to write a review, which led to more writing, which led to this gig. Now Tom Anstead, the man behind the watch, has relaunched it in a way, selling the Oceanis direct through his web site. But this version, still under the same name, and still “the first of the naval combat series,” is really an improvement and refinement over the original Oceanis, a watch I still enjoy and wear.

Szanto 1100, A New Vintage Field Watch

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

Szanto is a new brand, started by the the founder of Luminox, Barry Cohen. They have been on quite a press push of late, getting watches into the hands of several watch bloggers, so there are a few opinions out there for anyone wanting to survey a range of impressions. The sent me three watches to check out, and the first one I thought I would tackle was the simplest of the three, the Szanto 1100 (1104 to be exact in my color combination) an attractive three hand quartz field watch.

Garmin Approach S6, The Smartwatch I Might Want

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

OK, I am not all that enamored with Smartwatches. I carry my phone and love my iPad, but I don’t see where I really need to see who is calling or texting by glancing at my wrist. And I am plenty active, I don’t need a fitness monitor either, so that functionality does not excite me either. But I am also a golfer, albeit a terrible one, and the Garmin Approach S6 may finally be the smartwatch that I want to own.
